News Bites

May 7, 2020 by Clare Burnett

News bites are news snippets and offers from breweries across Australia and New Zealand.

Mornington Peninsula’s Red Hill Brewery turns 15 this weekend and while they can’t celebrate the way they hoped, they are kicking off the festivities with a 15% birthday sale through their online shop.

New Zealand-based craft brewer Good George is another brewery to pivot to sanitiser production, with owner Brian Watson saying he has transformed their Gin & Whiskey still and is making  a WHO approved recipe that has been lab tested for efficacy. “This week we will be giving away another 2000 litres to local schools preparing to re-open. That’s over 3500 given away so far which we’re pretty proud off,” Watson said. Good George is also assisting its on-premise accounts, offering a full credit on all unopened full kegs that are returned to the brewery.

After 13 years, WA’s Cowaramup Brewing Company is adapting to the changing consumer habits prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic and is putting its beer into 375ml cans for the first time.

Newcastle’s Foghorn Brewery has been signed on to produce and sanitiser for Wellness and Beauty Solutions according to a statement released to the ASX this week. The joint venture is a “tangible demonstration of Australian companies coming together during a crisis” said the statement.

Victoria’s Hop Nation has launched a range of hard seltzers called Ray – which it says is a brewed alcoholic sparkling water with real fruit and no added sugar. It’s available now online at its brewery takeaway/drive-through, and throughout Victoria and interstate from 7th May.

Sunshine Coast brewery Land & Sea has been producing hand sanitiser in collaboration with sister company Noosa Heads Distillery. The distillery redesign is facilities to meet the increasing demand for hand sanitiser during the pandemic.

At St Andrews Beach Brewery in Victoria, the brewery’s SABB Pizza Shop is open for business. The team have reopened the pizza restaurant for takeaways to be collected from the brewery doors.

Range Brewing ran out of its small batch Living Room Rave, an 8.2% DIPA within two days after launching it on Wednesday. It’s also revamped its pizza menu available for takeaway from Sunday 22nd March.

Home Alone with Hops v.2 was launched last week from Victorian brewers including 3 Ravens, Blackman’s, Bad Shepherd, Fixation, Hawkers, Bodriggy, Molly Rose and Brick Lane. Get your hands on some here.

Wildflower Brewing has made some of its beers available in large format 1.5-litre magnums, with a limit of a single bottle per person.
